JCJC's Crosby, Lonergan receive national honors

 ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College first baseman Karley Crosby and pitcher Ginger Lonergan have received national honors.

Crosby has been named the NJCAA Division II Player of the Week for March 19-25, while Lonergan has been named NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week. The awards were announced on Wednesday morning.

Crosby, a freshman from Seminary, batted .500 for the week (12 for 24) and belted six home runs, including a pair of walk-off shots. She had 20 RBIs on the week.

Crosby had two home runs and six RBIs in a 10-5 win over Meridian Community College on March 20 and had two home runs and four RBIs in a 9-1 victory over Southwest Mississippi on March 24. She has 10 home runs and 28 RBIs on the year.

Lonergan, a sophomore from Gretna, La., went 3-0 on the week with three shutouts and also recorded a save. She pitched 20 1/3 innings, gave up just eight hits, walked one and struck out 29. Lonergan, who prepped at Dominican High School, is 11-1 on the season after picking up a win over Pearl River on Tuesday.

Lonergan was a third-team NJCAA All-American last year as a freshman.

The 10th-ranked Lady Bobcats will open up the second half of MACJC South Division play with a 4 p.m. Friday doubleheader at Co-Lin Community College.

Head coach Chris Robinson’s team is currently 24-3 overall and 10-2 in league play.
